Spirits Abyss

Caiys has become one of my favorite developers, and I'm working my way backwards through their catalog now. Spirits Abyss is a roguelike platformer that gets compared to Spelunky. It's all the usual Caiys goodness, from the pixel art to the weird characters to the strange vibes. Your mission is to collect as much gold as ye can while venturing deeper into the abyss. I feel like I learn a bit more each run. So far, it's an enjoyable romp that nicely scratches the died-lets-do-it-again itch.

Really digging this game. I beat the first hunt scenario and I'm not on to the adventure, which is twice as many levels. I'm continuing to discover new rooms and aspects. I'm also getting better at murdering shopkeepers. Collecting items is fun, as most are useful, especially the passive ones. I had to look up the different types of hearts because they're not really explained.

I played as the bushido melee character for several hours, and this character throws or drops bombs by pressing down. When I switched to the shooter character, who shoots bombs, I kept accidentally blowing myself up by shooting bombs at my feet. D: So I may try to mix it up a bit more to keep from getting too ingrained in certain mechanics. But this is an enjoyable game all around, no matter how much one dies.

Unlocked the daily challenge and did surprisingly well. Let's do it again!

...Still blowing myself up as the Alchemistro. But I enjoy the game so I don't care (that much?). Well, maybe I care a little. Sometimes, I'm caught off guard when I lob a bomb at a wall and I get blown up even thinking I was a reasonable distance away. Tis the price one pays for massively powerful projectiles.

I thought I could blow up shopkeepers with no consequence. Not so! A bounty hunter came after me. Sins must be punished.

I beat Lexicanium Hunt with Alchemistro and only blew myself up like 12 times.

Found a new level room... a visit with mommy boosts one's hearts. I got 4 one time and a whopping 8 another which is pretty excellent.

Normally I focus on beating whatever I'm doing, the Hunt or Adventure, but the next game mode is unlocked by unsealing the domain doorways, so I'm going to give those precedence now. I peeked at hints to unlock other clans, and I don't know any of those are things I would accidentally do while bumbling around, so I'll probably focus on that next.

Still enjoying this game quite a bit. Managed to unlock two classes, the warlock and the digger. Trying to remember to grab a screencap whenever I see a new doorway or between levels room.

I beat the second mode, which is the 8-level adventure mode. I expected the boss to pull a "dead nah just kiddin!" so when it didn't I was relieved as I had like 1 heart left. I also unlocked the Shinobi class, which I like a lot better than the Warlock. Shinobi has lots of fun upgrade options. There's an old man who asks for food or a sleeping aid (?) and I never have any. One day. In the meantime, I continue to enjoy scampering about dying.

Decided to play around on some of the extra modes on Spirits Abyss. I'm terrible, but I still enjoyed it!
